BHPC cares about one thing more than anything else, Jesus Christ. We are a family of individuals that have found hope in Jesus, and simply want as many people as possible to experience that exact same freedom.
What we believe at BHPC about Jesus, the Bible, and the Church
Benton Heights Presbyterian Church had its beginning in 1920. Mr. W.H. Belk of Charlotte was instrumental in seeing that the children in the Benton Heights community receive Christ-centered religious training. Mr. W.H. Belk, a lifelong Presbyterian, provided money for the original chapel to be built in Monroe.
With the help of the First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, the people in the community of Benton Heights petitioned the Presbytery to formally organize a church. On July 23, 1939, the commission of (what was then called) Mecklenburg Presbytery met in the chapel to worship God and to formally enter into a covenant with 31 charter members.
In 1940, BHPC took another step forward in growth and ministry as work began on a new sanctuary. The sanctuary was dedicated on February 14, 1943. The old chapel was renovated and used as a fellowship hall until 1972 when an education building was completed.
In 1992, the session appointed a long range planning committee. Charged with developing a comprehensive plan to meet the spiritual and religious needs identified by each of our members, families, and community for the future. A vision was born!
The vision of relocating and building a new facility to provide Christ-centered, broad based family ministry was fully realized by the congregation at our first service of worship that was held in our present building on Sunday, January 16, 2000.
In November 2012, following the movement of the Spirit, the congregation voted unanimously to leave the Presbyterian Church USA and align with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC). We are fully at home with our Christ-centered, biblically-based denomination.
Loving Jesus through worship and discipleship. Sharing His love through outreach and evangelism.
Our mission, as Jesus followers, is to love God, love others, and to make disciples of all nations.
